Limited Edition Holton H878 Double French Horn
This brass is no longer for sale (sold on 2010-03-10)
Price : US $ 2000

I slaved away to afford this horn at list price (~$5k) during high school. Now I no longer have the time for my baby, plus I need to buy a car! It has been cared for like a child, the only wear is slight spotting, as is normal, in the bell where the right hand sweats during nerve-wracking proficiency tests and what not, plus wear on the second valve key. Other than that, no dents or scratches to speak of. Comes with hard case and mouthpiece.
THE DIFFERENCE IS IN THE DETAILS
- Rose Brass – (Roughly 90% Copper, 10% Zinc). Also known as Red Brass, this material produces a warmer tone compared to Yellow Brass.
- Professional horns usually have a large bell flare, which is harder to control, but produces a much broader, thicker, darker and warmer sound.
- The Double Horn is called so because it actually has two sets of tubing. The two sets of tubing allow the player to switch between the keys of F and Bb which are engaged by a fourth valve operated by the thumb (Geyer wrap.) The Bb side of the instrument responds better in the higher register, and offers better intonation, where as the F side of the horn gives a warmer sound.
The sound quality of this instrument is mellow, lush, and velvety as it utilizes tonal characteristics of Brass and Nickel Silver in the body, along with the superlative quality created by the Rose Brass professional size bell.

I am interested in the horn. Where are you located, as we will want to play it before any money changes hands. We are in upstate New York.
