Up for auction is a vintage Conn 88H trombone with original case. As best I can read, the serial number is 15836. This could be prefaced by 88H but time and replating job back in the early 80s has obscured that. Based on the serial number according to the Conn-Selmer website it could be a 1963 model. I'm not sure it is that old, however, I have owned the instrument since 1977 and I know the previous owner had it for 5 years prior to that so it is at least a 1972 model. The horn has a long history. I have played this horn for 30 years and with some of the jazz greats. This horn toured with the Buddy Rich Band in 1981 and has performed with Maynard Ferguson, Doc Severenson, Dizzy Gillespie, Della Reese, Freddie Hubbard, Chuck Mangione, John McNeil and Ramsey Lewis. It has performed at least 500 marching shows and parades through the years and was finally retired from service last year. Physical condition is what you would expect from a 40 year old horn that has seen daily battle. I still play it about once a month, but only in my home. The horn was re-plated and lacquered in 1981 by Paulis Music Co. in Jacksonville, FL. The slide needs some work. It is functional, but requires a good deal of time in preparation with just the right combination of cream, oil and water. The valve is lightning fast and both tuning slides
