Early 1900's Frank Holton & Co. Cornet #75830
complete with Holton mouthpiece, case, music holder & mute
This cornet was part of a family member's estate and was once owned by a musician relative who immigrated from Europe in the early 1900's.
The cornet has been minimally cleaned to expose the engraving on the ball: Frank Holton & Co, Elkhorn, Wis #75830. According to Holton information, this means it was manufactured after 1917.
The mouthpiece is marked Frank Holton, Chicago and the name ''Heim Model'' (not a relative) which means it was manufactured pre-1917.
All the pistons move on this instrument, although the piston nearest the bell moves slowly. All slides come off well.
The instrument has small dents around the bell area and it, obviously, needs a good cleaning.
The straight mute is labeled Humes & Berg, East Chicago, and has a soft cloth removeable covering.
There is a metal music holder included.
The case shows wear but closes well and all three locks are in working order.
Note that this instrument was kept in it's case in a closet for at least 65 years. There was a smoker in the house, so the case does have a faint odor.
