Here comes a late 40ies or early 50ies vintage french 'ANTOINE COURTOIS PARIS' breveté model flugelhorn in great original condition: the silverplating is 100%, there are no dents or repair marks and the french brass alloy is very healthy without traces of red hot or corrosion. There is a couple of minor nicks on the bottom tubing of the horn from normal use, nothing major. All slides and caps are free, this flugelhorn comes from a chem clean, new felts were added. The valve action is perfect and smooth with good compression - all slides pop when drawn out. The original french wooden case is in good condition with some signs of wear, as expected after 50 years of age. The original mouthpiece is ANTOINE COURTOIS Nr 3 with a french parallel shank that enters as supposed all the way into the leadpipe, it's in rough condition though. ......... The best thing about this rare and collectable french flugelhorn is its sound and playability though: the Courtois company, among the biggest, oldest and most successful french brass instrument makers, invented along with Selmer, F. Besson and Couesnon the modern flugelhorn design: its 155mm = 6.1 inches bell diameter and the small bore .421 valve section were introduced in the 20ies 'breveté' models and are still the brandmark of modern flugelhorn design. The playing characteristics, feel and sound are still unsurpassed for modern jazz or big band playing. Unfortunately, not many Courtois brass instruments were imported to the US due to the high prices - the american market was fed with the cheaper Couesnon flugelhorns (which were also good standard flugelhorns). ..........
